Hi i'm Bushra, my story about how BJewels came about is similar to how semi-precious gem came about; they both evolved naturally. I discovered a passion for jewellery making, whilst living in Chile where I was volunteering for a small local charity. We worked with children of various ages, I started working in an orphanage where there were a group of 13-16 year old girls. I had no idea how to keep them entertained, but I noticed they wore a lot of jewellery and remembered seeing some bead shops in town, from there an idea began to form. I found a book in the library on jewellery making and started practicing. After successfully running a series of workshops on jewellery making with the girls, my journey into creating and designing jewellery began. Having attended various courses in jewellery design and jewellery making, I am still constantly expanding my skills.
My inspiration and style comes from nature. Anyone who has travelled knows the earth is encrusted with hidden beauty, I discovered this when travelling around South America and living in Chile. It always stopped me in my tracks when I looked into the distance and saw the mountain peaks. The views of the sunset in my apartment were always so amazing to look at; each one never the same. Volcano’s erupting in Bolivia and driving through the Atacama Desert. I could go on…
When I came back to the UK I saw my surroundings in a different way. The forests, lush greenery, blossom trees and the differing seasons. The colours and textures from nature come through in my work where I use wirework and semi-precious gemstones with Swarovski crystals. Where I can, I source and buy stones from my travels to make my pieces truly unique which is why some items are limited editions.
I hope you enjoy wearing a beautiful piece of BJewels jewellery as much as I enjoy making it.
